LONG BEACH - Move over, motorists.
City officials are maneuvering for bicyclists to share a larger part of the road, where on some streets the two-wheelers may even become the favored mode of transportation.
The city has been unveiling to business and neighborhood associations a pilot program involving a series of bike lanes officials hope will be installed by the summer.
City Traffic Programs Officer Sumire Gant, who gave a presentation to the Downtown Long Beach Associates Board of Directors on Wednesday, said the program will be funded by grants and won’t take away from parking.
Gant said the lanes are part of a larger effort to encourage healthy activity, mobility and accessibility to the community.
